It’s not the size, it’s what you do with it that counts

wowAre you someone who is besotted by size?

Are you a ‘bigger is better’ kind of guy (or gal)?

However in list building, it is definitely more about what you do with it, than the size of it.

You see it doesn’t matter if you have multiple thousands on your list(s), if none of them actually do anything with the mails you send them, they are a distinct liability.

The fact is most autoresponders charge you a membership based on the number of people you have subscribed.

So if you are not communicating and suggesting useful products and services to your list, it WILL be costing you money rather than bringing in income!!

More and more nowadays people seem to have focused on the wrong part of list building. They go round boasting about how big their list is and how good this makes them.

However as soon as you ask about how receptive that list is, they suddenly become a lot quieter!

At its core, list building is just the beginning of an on-going but simple process;

…attract people with a certain interest (usually with some sort of free gift)

…communicate regularly with these individuals in an adult and intelligent way

…offer them products or services that can help solve their problems

…(repeat)

What this doesn’t mean however is sending your list spammy swipe mail after spammy mail.

This will lose you members quicker than you can say ‘I bloody hate internet marketing’!

You want to be sending mails that build a relationship i.e. are of interest, are funny, are informative, in other words the type of emails you like to receive.

I know this is far easier said than done for many and therefore it was my inspiration when I put together my AR Mail Genie membership.

I knew if I could supply people with emails that not only converted, but also entertained and informed, everyone was going to be happy.

The person on your list wins because they get interesting/informative information that can help them be better at whatever they joined your list for….

…You win because from time to time individuals on your list will invest in the offers you find for them.

And of course let’s be clear, I win because you’re investing in my services.

I would say that was pretty much the definition of a win-win, mutually beneficial situation.

However it doesn’t matter how and where you get the mails, it is just hugely important that you are communicating with your list on a regular basis.

The minute you start to focus on just the list building element, it’s like constantly being in labour, without ever actually enjoying the rewards of giving birth!

(forgive me, as a bloke I’ve obviously never actually gone through the process of giving birth, but my wife seemed to think it was a good analogy so I used it)

So let your mantra from this day on be…

“I’ve got a list and I’m going to use it!”
